Alice's Journeys Walking Tours of Daylesford will stir your imagination, and secrets revealed, leaving you with a sense of wonder and surprise. A fun and relaxing way to enjoy a few hours.

The stories, history and herstory will come to life as you walk through the living museum that is the town of Daylesford. Your personal independent local guide will reveal and share secrets and stories from the region’s pre-colonial, colonial and prehistoric past to the present day.

A unique and interesting excursion for all visitors and locals to gain further insight and knowledge into the Daylesford township and the untold stories of the people who have made it what it is today.

Tours run Friday and Saturday. Exclusive tours can be organised at other times - please get in touch!

They also run Cammino di Hepburn during Spring, Summer and Autumn. The one hour walk takes in the key culture and architecture of the Swiss and Italian village now known as Hepburn Springs. Walks operate at 5pm each and every Friday. Bookings are essential.

Options

Daylesford Town Walk starts inside the Daylesford Visitor Information Centre most Fridays and Saturday. 

Tours go for 1.5 hours and cover approximately three to four kilometres of Daylesford. The pace is gentle but there are some hills. There are scheduled times however other times available by pre-arrangement – 24 hours notice usually required.

Please bring good walking shoes and comfortable clothing suitable for the season, hat, sunscreen, umbrella and in winter bring warm comfortable clothing – hat and scarf is recommended. 

Price includes access to key sites and buildings on the walk plus entry to the Daylesford Museum, after the walking tour during the weekend, public and school holidays opening hours. 

To maximise your enjoyment each group size is kept small with a maximum of 15 people, so bookings are essential. Please arrive 15 minutes earlier for tours to start on time.

Explore the remarkable Swiss and Italian history, culture and architecture in Hepburn Springs. This is an engaging guided small group walk and talk. Finish with a refreshing glass of your favourite at one of their famous bars.

For the first time, we will extend  Walking Tours of Daylesford, from the Daylesford town centre to Wombat Park Estate.

As part of the Wombat Park Estate Open Garden Weekend on 2 and 3 November 2024, they are delighted to bring you this exclusive, small group, walking tour experience!

With the Daylesford town history and cultural walk as your backdrop, you’ll start at the Daylesford Visitor Information Centre and take in the key town sites. This will set the scene for the unique walking tour of the Wombat Park Estate, followed by access to lunch and refreshments sourced from local makers and artisans, and served in the garden as you rest and take in the stunning late Spring, early Summer atmosphere. 

Please note lunch and refreshments are not included in this ticket price.

1. The Walk is in two parts. 

Part 1 of the Walk begins at the Daylesford Visitor Information Centre, 98 Vincent St. Daylesford. 

After a short drive in your car, Part 2 of the Walk begins at Wombat Park Estate, 4719 Midland Highway Daylesford. 

Therefore you will need your own vehicle to drive from the town to the Estate, approximately 1.5 kms. and takes five minutes.

In 1904, at the age of 14, Amelia Musso arrived in Daylesford, with her sister, from Italy. In conversation with Maria Harris, Amelia’s granddaughter, you discover what Daylesford was like in 1904 for young Amelia confronted by a strange landscape, culture and language. 

Maria recalls the stories of courage and resilience, loneliness and humiliation, strength and generosity that her grandmother told.

As part of this years Festa 2024, join them at Radius Art Gallery in Hepburn Springs and meet author, Maria Harris (nee Triaca), in conversation with Cathy Samsury (nee del Negro). 

Maria Harris (nee Triaca) is author of “Amelia - A Long Journey”. Maria wrote this endearing story of her Nonna (Grandmother) Amelia, who was sent from Italy to Daylesford in 1904, as a 14-year-old, to care for her aging uncle.

Maria's book was first published in 1985 and is a remarkable and enduring story of love, hardship, resilience and adversity. In recognition of the value and perpetuity of Amelia's story, in 2023 it was translated into Italian and is published via Amazon books.

Maria Triaca was born and educated in Melbourne.  She is a third generation Italo-Australian.
